Dear Editor,

Community spirit is alive and well in Ponoka. This spirit lives in Tom and Michelle Lam from the Old Iron Horse Restaurant.

Tom often gives back to the community and this year he gave generously to the Ponoka White Cane Support Group. Each year, this group meets for a New Year’s lunch and this past Wednesday when the members arrived at the restaurant they found the table set in festive style.

Tom donated the lunch to the support group.

Members were able to order from the menu and were served a range of delicious meals. Also on this annual occasion, Ponoka Family and Community Support Services donated the cost of rides from the Wheelchair Van Society.

Tom’s generosity and that of FCSS were both very appreciated by the members.

Ponoka White Caners is a volunteer support group for people who struggle with vision loss. The group meets each month to discuss sight challenges and ways to to meet those challenges.

The next meeting for the group will be at 1:15 p.m on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Anglican Church Hall. Ksenia Korataiev, peer support and volunteer coordinator from the Edmonton CNIB office will be the guest speaker. Everyone who is interested in the issues surrounding vision loss are welcome to attend.
