Spring drop-in programming is expanding at the Ponoka Arena Complex this year to include volleyball, pickleball and lacrosse, in addition to the return of drop-in basketball, badminton and floor hockey.

The 2024 drop-in programming season begins on Wednesday, April 17.

“We are excited to expand the number of drop-in sports offered this year. It will provide more opportunities to stay active and adds to the quality of life that our citizens enjoy in Ponoka,” said Andrew Jones, manager of Parks, Recreation and Facilities, in a press release.

The new 2024 drop-in programming schedule is posted on the Town of Ponoka’s website.

The curling rink at the arena will be set up with basketball hoops, badminton and pickleball courts.

Volleyball, floor hockey and lacrosse will be played in the small ice area.

Equipment will be available for use; however, individuals can also use their own equipment.

Children under the age of eight will require direct supervision from a person 16 years of age or older.

To access the drop-in programming, residents can purchase a single-use pass at the arena, a 20-visit punch pass for the arena or a recreation pass which gives users access to all drop-in programming at the arena and the Ponoka Aquaplex (including swimming, water fitness classes and racquetball).

The drop-in programming schedule may change in the coming weeks, depending on facility rental commitments.
