The public are being advised to stay away from the Battle River and the nearby town trail systems.

The Town of Ponoka issued a warning just after noon on April 20 for people to stay off the trails in the river valley due to rising spring runoff levels. The water has covered the trails in various ares, making it difficult to judge exactly where the trail is.

That makes the situation dangerous as the water may have undermined the trail as well as people may not realize how close they are to the river bank and fall into the river.

In addition, the town has temporarily closed the Diamond Willow Trail until further notice. Please obey all signs and barricades.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.

Concerns or questions are to be directed to the town office at (403) 783-4431.
