Environment Canada announced June 20 that conditions are favourable for a severe thunderstorm for Ponoka and area.
These conditions may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, states a release.
Those thunderstorms will occur in the afternoon and will last into the evening hours and watches may continue east and southeast.
“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” states the release. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
The watch was issued after seeing atmospheric conditions favourable for the development of thunderstorms.
