Close to 10 p.m. on Aug. 25, Maskwacis RCMP were called to a home on the Montana First Nation northeast of Ponoka in response to a 911 call regarding an assault.

Upon arrival, officers found a 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries. Police provided first aid until EMS crews from Maskwacis and Ponoka were able to reach the scene.

The woman wound up being transported to Edmonton via STARS Air Ambulance, while the man was taken by ground ambulance to an area hospital. Both people are still in hospital, with the woman being reported as still in critical condition.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident and hoping that someone may have witnessed the assault or saw some activity in the area.

Anyone that may have some information or knows who may be involved are requested to contact the Maskwacis RCMP at (780) 585-4600 or their local police.
