Alton Nelson

Alton Jens Daniel Nelson was born on February 3, 1931 in Bashaw, Alberta and passed away on July 9, 2010 in Ponoka, Alberta at the age of 79 years. Alton farmed east of Ponoka on his family’s farm until moving to Ponoka in 1977 where he has resided for 33 years. He worked for Alberta Hail and Crop Insurance for several years until his retirement. Alton is survived by his wife of 56 years, Muriel Nelson; his daughter Betty (John) Bremner, sons Ray Nelson and Alan (Brenda) Nelson; and daughter Donna (Jason) Sawyer; five grandchildren: Jenny-Rae, Danny, Reed, Shanda and Shelby; and three great-grandchildren: Malachi, Ezra and Chance. He will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Ponoka on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. In Alton’s memory, memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Thank you to Dr. Halse and the nursing staff who have shown kindness and care to Alton.
