May 15, 1939 - February 25, 2024

In loving memory ~

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Edward Wilkie on February 25, 2024.

Ed was born on May 15, 1939, in Hafford, Saskatchewan. He was the second oldest of 8 children of Reinhold and Martha Wilkie. He lived in Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Mirror, Alberta prior to settling down in Ponoka with Vivian in 1961 where they had their three daughters Angela, Janice, and Christine.

He was a truck driver for a few years driving as far north as Yellowknife, NWT; and then decided to become an automotive mechanic and start up his own business, Husky Motors, so that he could be home more with his family. He operated his business for almost 60 years. He loved being a mechanic and you could find him in his garage daily tinkering around with his many antique vehicles, Harley motorcycle, tractors, etc. and always had time for his daily 10:00 a.m. coffee crew (friends & family) to show up, until his health deteriorated in the last year.

He later met an old schoolmate, Sylvia Cire at a social dance where they rekindled their friendship and enjoyed many happy years going to dances, car shows, visiting family and friends. Ed lived independently until his passing.

He is survived by his loving and caring special friend Sylvia Cire; his 3 daughters Angie (Garnet) Lewis and their son Blake (Karoline); Janice McLellan and her children Kirk (Tammy) and their children Myles, Danielle, and Tanner, Conner, Quinn (Leslie), and Morgan (Zack) Dionne; Christine (Peter) Hall and their children Garrett, Justin (Kelcie), and Cassandra. He is also survived by Sylvia's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild; along with his surviving siblings Elmer Wilkie (Lois), Betty Jewer, Terry Sigurdur, and David Wilkie (Erica); sister-in-law Sheila Wilkie; brother-in-law Al Heine; and extended family and friends.

Ed was predeceased by the mother of his children, Vivian Forsyth Wilkie; parents Reinhold and Martha Wilkie; siblings Freida Heine, Ruth Chura (Roy), and George Wilkie; and brother-in-law Dieter Jewer.

Although we will all miss Ed and his personality and sense of humour, we take great comfort in reflecting on his long and happy 84 years of life.

As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:30 p.m.

Our deepest thanks to Dr. Halse and the staff of Wombold Family Funeral Homes.
