Joannes (John) Hubertus Remyn

It is with sad hearts, we announced the passing of John at the Northcott Care Centre at the age of 92 years. Born in Sluis, Netherlands, he and his wife Maria married and immigrated to Canada in 1955 and settled in Czar, Alberta. They relocated to Vauxhall, Alberta in 1959. In 1963, they purchased a farm east of Ponoka and made the community their home for the past 54 years. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Maria; his son, Jack Remyn (Kathleen); his daughter, Lynette Hayden (Alan); grandchildren Brad Remyn (Terry), Brent Remyn (Sara), Jazlyn Woodman and Dallas Woodman; great-granddaughter Adalynn; brothers Albert Remyn, Marinus (Henriette) Remyn, Willem (Erna), and Nicolaas; sister Nelly van der Keere (Robert); brother-in-law Remy Buysse, and sister-in-law Ria Remyn, as well as many nieces and nephews in the Netherlands.

He has predeceased by his parents, Nicolaas and Cornelia Remyn; brothers Bastiaan (Tillie) Remyn, Jacob Remyn, Petrus Remyn; sisters Cornelia Remyn, Jobina (Raymond) Gielliet, and Maria Buysse; and sister-in-law, Catharina Remyn. John was a wonderful, hard-working man with a great sense of humor. Although he enjoyed bowling, golfing (hole-in-one), and playing cards with friends, his true passion in life was his family and his love of farming. He will be tremendously missed. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Interment Service following at the Forest Home Cemetery in Ponoka. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to Northcott Care Centre or any charity of your choice. To express condolences to John’s family, please visit www.womboldfuneralhomes.com.
