Wayne Stewart

Edward Wayne Stewart was born February 6, 1943 in Lacombe and passed away on September 12, 2010 at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. On March 27, 1971 he married his lifetime partner, Fay Long and they were blessed with two children, Blair and Brenda. In 1972 Wayne and Fay moved to the Stewart farm and in 1993 moved into the Ponoka Trailer Park. In 1995 Wayne found his dream job with the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society, which became a very important part of his life. A couple of days before his passing he expressed how he really missed his clients. On Monday, August 30 he was presented with a plaque from the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society for 15 years of dedicated service. He was taken to his final resting place in the big van. Wayne had many health problems over the years but was able to overcome most of them. He enjoyed some sport hobbies such as hockey, softball, curling and horseback riding to name a few. In the summer of 2008 Wayne and son Blair took a fishing trip up to Brent and Erin’s Lodge in northern Manitoba - holidays were something Wayne just didn’t enjoy doing. Wayne leaves to mourn his passing his wife Fay; son Blair; daughter Brenda (Calvin) Andrews; special granddaughter Emily "Sissy"; his mother Edna; brother George; sister Carol (Henry) Fleck; numerous nieces and nephews; Fay’s family; relatives and special friends. A Funeral Service was held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Thursday, September 16th with Reverend Stuart Jackson officiating. The Interment Service was held earlier that day at the Dakota Cemetery. Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society or any charity of your choice.
