This year’s annual Bowl for Kids event brings in $18,500

Proceeds support the BGC mentoring program

Supporting BGC Wolf Creek, the annual Bowl for Kids was held on March 1 at the Ponoka Leisure Lanes Bowling Alley.

A total of $18,500 was raised at the event.

The proceeds will go to support the BGC mentoring program, said Beth Reitz, executive director of the Ponoka Youth Centre, which includes BGC Wolf Creek.

She said the popular fundraiser has been running for about 30 years.

This year’s fundraising goal is $15,000.

Participants were asked to form teams of up to six people, which could include friends, family members, employees, and/or co-workers.

After teams registered for Bowl for Kids, they then set out to raise pledges that helped to cover the minimum entry fee of $500.

This year’s theme was ‘Night at the Oscars,’ so bowlers were asked to arrive decked out in their most amazing Oscars outfits.

The BGC Wolf Creek’s mentoring program runs from September through to June.

Mentors are matched with a child between the ages of six and 17, and meet with them once a week for an hour to play games, do crafts and just have fun together.
