Eleven year old Ponoka Stampeders Peewee A Elks minor hockey player, Jordon Wombold, recently had an opportunity hockey players and adoring fans of all ages alike could only dream of.

After filling out an application for the “McDonald’s In the Line Up program” online roughly two months ago, Wombold soon received a phone call notifying him he was the winner. What did he win? The once in a lifetime chance to lead the Edmonton Oilers onto the ice at Rexall Place and stand with the starting lineup during the national anthems! On top of this honor Wombold received four tickets to the game, was able to keep the jersey he wore out on the ice, and took home an autographed photo aside from meeting the Oilers including his favorite player, Sam Gagner, and getting ready with them in their dressing room prior to game time.

Every home game this season, one lucky minor hockey or ringette player between the ages of eight and twelve years old will be selected to receive this VIP treatment. To be eligible to enter the contest the child participating must fall within the age restrictions as of Dec. 31, 2008, is registered by Oct. 6, 2008, or during the period of Oct. 6, 2008 to March 3, 2009, and will play in either the Canadian 2008-2009 hockey season with an ice hockey team whose association and/or branch is a member of Hockey Canada or the Canadian 2008-2009 ringette season with a ringette team whose association and/or branch is a member of Ringette Canada, and is able to ice skate in a reasonably competent manner as determined by McDonald’s. Official rules and an application form can be viewed and filled out by visiting www.oilers.nhl.com.

Wombold has been playing hockey since he was five years old and felt this was an amazing experience he will never forget. His family is very proud of his accomplishments as well.

Congratulations Jordon!
