CWB elections in the near future

(Agri-News) Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) elections are currently underway to choose directors in five of the CWB’s 10 electoral districts.

(Agri-News) Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) elections are currently underway to choose directors in five of the CWB’s 10 electoral districts. In Alberta, eligible voters will cast ballots in districts 2 and 4. Ballots must be postmarked no later than Nov. 28, 2008.

The candidates in district 2 are:

Gerald Pilger

The candidates in district 4 are:

Sam Magnus

Walter Suntjens

Bill Woods

Eligible voters must be:

• an actual producer or interested party (as defined by the Canadian Wheat Board Act). Producers must have grown wheat, oats, barley, rye, flaxseed, rapeseed or canola in the 2007/2008 or 2008/2009 crop years.

• assigned in one of districts 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10.

• 18 years of age as of November 28, 2008 (underage voters may designate someone else named in the permit book eligible to vote on their behalf).

Voters may only cast one ballot in the election. If they produce grain in more than one CWB district, they will be assigned to a single voting district. Voters wanting to change districts must complete a district transfer request and submit it to the election coordinator, Meyers Norris Penny.

Landlords, vendors or mortgagees can also apply to vote provided they are or were entitled to a share of one or more of the seven major crops during the 2007/08 or 2008/09 crop years on lands within the districts up for election.
