A dinner to honor those who served Canada will be held next week, as well as a celebration to burn a 20-year mortgage.

The Ponoka branch of the Royal Canadian Legion is hosting a veteran’s dinner Sept. 28 in recognition of all veterans but a special recognition will be made this year and the legion’s building’s mortgage is paid off after 20 years.

“It is very exciting,” said president Dorothy Houghton.

The night will feature dinner and a burning of the mortgage. Special awards will be given out to a select few, and members of the legion will get special recognition.

“One hundred write-ups of Ponoka and area members will be included in the Alberta Northwest Territories Command Military Service Recognition book,” Houghton said.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the legion (403) 783-4076 or by pick up at the legion hall.
