Alberta cherishes mental health leaders

The Lieutenant Governor’s Circle on Mental Health and Addiction is welcoming nominations for the 2013 True Awards.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Circle on Mental Health and Addiction is welcoming nominations for the 2013 True Awards. The awards celebrate individual Albertans and organizations who are leading the way in work to deliver mental health programs and services, reduce stigma and encourage recovery.

“The True Awards honour exemplary Albertans who have dedicated themselves to fostering a better public understanding of mental illness and addiction and to serving all those who suffer,” said Lt.-Gov. Donald S. Ethell. “There is extraordinary work taking place across our province in the area of mental health. By sharing these success stories we can honour the heroes among us while encouraging others to follow their example.”

Anyone can submit a nomination for a True Award. The nomination deadline is May 1. The award ceremony will take place in late September.

The five True Award categories are:

True Grit - presented to an individual who has made use of mental health and addiction services and inspired others to get help in their recovery or dedicated themselves to the issue.

True Compassion - presented to an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the delivery of mental health and addiction programs and services.

True Leadership - presented to an organization, business or individual who is providing exceptional leadership in improving mental health and addiction programs or services.

True Service – presented to a public body that has shown itself to be of excellence in the delivery of mental health an addiction services.

True Imagination - presented to an individual or organization that has initiated innovative approaches in mental health and addiction services.
