On Winter Walk Day, more than 1,000 Ponoka residents spent at least 15 minutes walking outside, earning the town top honours in the Community Challenge in the class 3 population category. Participants were able to get some exercise, enjoy the winter weather and reduce congestion and vehicle emissions by walking as an alternative form of transportation.

The Alberta Motor Association is the sponsor of the Winter Walk Day awards and presented the Town of Ponoka with a plaque and a cheque for $500 to promote healthy lifestyles for residents.

Winter Walk Day encourages Albertans to walk for at least 15 minutes outdoors and is organized through a partnership with SHAPE (Safe Healthy Active People Everywhere), the Be Fit for Life Network and the Government of Alberta.
