Local painters and sculptures are ready to showcase their work in an annual event that has art lovers excited to attend.

The annual Ponoka Art Club Show and Sale is set for April 12 and 13 at the Seniors Drop-in Centre and local artists have been putting in the finishing touches on their works. Lyla Langford, president of the Ponoka Art Club says the event has always been one that fills artists’ hearts with pride, and a little anxiety.

“It’s a very private thing. They do a painting and it’s hard to put it out into the public,” she said.

“There’s a lot of heart and soul put into these pieces of work,” she added.

Expect submissions not only from the art club but also from Ponoka Potter’s Guild. Langford said the guild is a big part of sale.

This year, artist Eleanor Tangjerd will be featured and she will be bringing a variety of her oil paintings.

Langford is excited to showcase the local artist because Tangjerd has a strong bond with painting. She said Tangjerd was like a kid in a candy shop when she paints.

“It’s the greatest treat in the world to watch her paint,” she explained.

“When I was a little girl, I remember her name in the talk,” she added.

Tangjerd said she does a lot of work with landscapes.

The art show is April 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and April 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
