An opportunity for an evening of fame will be given at the Ponoka Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion on May 2 and 3.

The Ponoka Stampede Local Talent Night auditions will be held at 7 p.m. each night and local performers will compete for a chance to sing on the big stage at the Ponoka Stampede on June 30.

Currently there are 35 people signed up and Karen Kjenner organizer of the talent competition encourages everyone who is interested to audition.

“It adds an extra evening of entertainment and gives local talent a chance to shine,” said Kjenner.

In the recent past the Stampede Talent Night boasts of success stories including Shane Yellowbird, Adam Gregory and Brett Kissel.

“It’s nice to have heard some people before they became famous,” said Kjenner. “We have listened toYellowbird and Kissel and look how far they have come.”

Dean Hill and Randy Bachinsky will be judging those who audition and a third judge is anticipated to be added to the group.

Hill is from Ponoka and has been a performer at the Stampede Talent Showcase. Hill has been judging for several years and writes and sings country and gospel music.

Bachinsky has performed all over the country and since moving to Alberta 16 years ago has began recording his music.

Each audition will be videotaped so the judges can review the performance and make a good decision.

The judges will be choosing 10 people to go through to the Ponoka Stampede. The winners will receive two tickets to the George Canyon and Yellowbird concert and will be performing two songs with the band Hey Romeo.
