The best of the best of beef cattle will be sold at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex on May 5.

Members of West, East and Central 4-H Beef Clubs have been putting in hours of labour to provide topnotch cattle to show and to sell.

The show and sale will be an opportunity for people to choose from over 70 cattle for their barbecue, freezer or any other uses.

The Ponoka and District 4-H Beef Show and Sale will be a chance to buy top grades of meat while supporting the 4-H members to continue their livestock raising activities.

Marissa Weleschuk president of the East Ponoka 4-H Beef Club is certain that the cattle that will be sold are of top quality.

“Members put a lot of work into raising their steers,” said Weleschuk. “They have been well taken care of and groomed and fed everyday.”

Members of the 4-H Clubs will be showing their own cattle that they have worked hard to bring to perfection.

Weleschuk believes that this experience really helps members and prompts them to stay active in 4-H.

“The sale really supports the kids and encourages them to do it again,” she said. “It benefits the members to keep going and be motivated in 4-H and be involved in other aspects that 4-H offers, such as public speaking.”

The female show will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a steer show to follow at 2:30 p.m. Awards will be held at 6 p.m. with the celebrity showmanship at 6:30 p.m. The sale begins at 7 p.m.
