The biggest fundraiser of Ponoka’s Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) is coming up and the group is preparing for a busy event.

Dubbed Bowl for Kids Sake, the bowling fundraiser is set for March 10 at Leisure Lanes and is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the group, explained Morgen Chernick, program director. This year’s theme is a Disney focus, said Chernick. “We want you to be our guest.”

The event is open to all ages and community members with 32 of the 48 total team slots already signed up. Among the many different prized for participants are those with the best costumes and those who collect the most for the fundraiser. This year’s goal is $20,000, said Chernick, and last year the group exceeded that goal.

Chernick is excited to see how this year will do. “We’re really looking forward to seeing what this event brings.”

Every single penny from this fundraiser goes to pay for mentor programming at Ponoka’s BBBS. Among the mentoring programs offered are in-school and traditional in the community mentoring, as well as youth to youth and group mentoring. Chernick says BBBS has 72 kids in the one-one-one mentoring programs and 75 in the group programs.

Despite the large number of mentors, the need remains high for support with another 35 kids on a list to be paired with a mentor. For more information on the fundraiser, or to be a mentor, contact Chernick at 403-783-3112.
