Since last report, a lot has been happening in our club. In March, our club went to the Collicutt Centre in Red Deer for a day of fun and water. Everyone had a blast and we ended the day with our meeting and pizza at Boston Pizza.

There was a multi-species judging day on April 15 at Vold, Jones and Vold Auction Market where a lot of our members learned to judge a variety of things. The following weekend, we had our mini-show at Bonnett’s, where we prepared our animals for the big day. Thanks to Neal Christiansen, who gave us a grooming demo and Ilene Hehr for her showmanship tips. Everyone clipped their steer projects and practiced showing and judging, all in preparation for our Achievement Day.

The month of May was extremely busy, with highway cleanup, our usual flower basket and sausage sale fundraisers as well as our Achievement Day on May 5. I think I speak for everyone in my club, when I say Achievement Day was the best day of the year. All our members had fun showing their steers and we all should be proud of the great job we did.

Our year-end banquet was held on June 8, with about 200 people in attendance at Ponoka Composite High School, with a great meal and lots of awards and prizes handed out.

We will be volunteering once again at the Ponoka Stampede Rodeo Challenge during the stampede as well as helping out at the Encana barbecue supper as a thank you to them for being such great supporters of 4-H. Also, a big thank-you to Ponoka News for assisting us with these reports, pictures, articles and 4-H promotions throughout the year.

With all that said, our 2007-2008 4-H year will come to an end. Thanks for keeping up with 4-H this year and remember we’re always looking for new members nine to 20 years old. See you in September.
