Energy Expo adventure at trade fair

The oil and gas industry has been a major focus around the world when looking at the economy. The province of Alberta is known internationally for its oil and gas industry and has been at the forefront of some recent important discussions, both political and economical.

The Ponoka and District Chamber of Commerce has joined with the EnCana Energy Expo to help show how Ponoka and Alberta are involved in the economic picture and present the community with a wide variety information on the oil and gas industry.

The EnCana Energy Expo will also highlight on how the industry contributes both economically and socially to the community of Ponoka.

This is the second consecutive year that the Ponoka Trade Fair has partnered with the EnCana Energy Expo and Trade Fair committee chair, Marieke Mulligan believes that this exposure of the oil and gas industry is valuable for the community.

“Approximately half of the top 20 employers in and around Ponoka are somehow related to the oil and gas industry,” said Mulligan. “So, naturally, it makes sense that such an important industry is highlighted in our Trade Fair.”

The Energy Expo is presented by EnCana Corporation and supporting sponsor, Quicksilver Resources Inc.

The Energy Expo is an opportunity for the public and families to come out and enjoy a fun-filled day learning about the industry.

Stacy Knull, vice-president, Clearwater Business Unit, EnCana Corporation says that the event is a great way that the industry can connect with the community.

“Not only will area residents have the opportunity to learn morea bout our industry and its role in the community, but this event also gives industry a great opportunity to interact with our neighbours in a fun, community atmosphere,” said Knull in a press release.

There will also be a large variety of other exhibitors from all areas of the local community and economy including agricultural, retail, services, community groups and more.

This year’s theme for the Ponoka Trade Fair is ‘Pirates’ and to help celebrate the theme there will be treasure hunts, pirate games, live entertainment, an Extreme Bungee Jump, Hog N’Grog food court and the Farmers Market.

The Ponoka Trade Fair and Energy Expo will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. on April 24 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 25 at the Ponoka Arena Complex.
