Foodgrains to hold sale to fight hunger

The Ponoka Foodgrains Project, in conjunction with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, is trying to end world hunger.

The two are holding their 10th annual beef and dairy fundraising sale, where the sale of animals and hay will go toward building a future free of hunger.

“The need for food right now is greater than ever — it helps support developing countries and for every dollar that we get for the cattle sale, because the farmers have been donating the cattle, really makes $5 for world hunger. So it is very powerful that way,” said volunteer Larry Henderson.

Henderson is referring the fact the money will be matched 4:1 by the government.

The group is still accepting donations, be it animals, hay or money and hopes to have a good turnout for the auction at Vold, Jones and Vold on March 16 at 1 p.m.

“We’ve been working in Haiti and in Pakistan. We helped more than two million people last year and we got great support from farmers and people across Alberta,” said Henderson.
