Full crowd for 2022 Ponoka Community Christmas Dinner

The 2022 Ponoka Community Christmas Dinner was one to remember. Serving about 175 people, it marked a return to normal with no restrictions for the first time in two years.

A traditional holiday meal was served at noon on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. There were also door prizes, a candy table and a children’s toy table where they could pick a gift.

“Everybody seemed to have a good time,” said organizer Val Schabert.

The event is open to the the public and is for those in the community who don’t have somewhere to go for Christmas.

Although the weather was mild, there weren’t as many seniors in attendance as in past years, Schabert noted.

While there were a few requests for meal deliveries this year, with no restrictions in place, organizers opted to do a full in-person meal only.

The food was supplied by Tom Lam with the Pony Express as well as Nuwan Warnakula from the Longhorn Saloon and Grill.

Many other volunteers and businesses contributed to make the event a success, said Schabert.
