Culture and history will be honoured at the Fort Ostell Museum on Aug. 2 for the Heritage Day weekend.

The Heritage Tea will pay tribute to the Filipino immigrants of Ponoka and celebrate them being a part of the community.

Barb Greshner, manager of the Fort Ostell Museum, believes that the event will provide for a good afternoon and looks forward to hosting the tea.

“We are honouring some of the more recent cultural groups in the town,” said Greshner. “The Filipino people are from another culture and they value Ponoka as their community.”

The Heritage tea will feature Filipino dessert and artifacts and Greshner feels that a mosaic community deserves recognition.

“Even in the small Town of Ponoka we must be aware that we are a diverse community,” she said. “Different cultures tend not to be represented in the museum, it’s mainly the pioneer life and this tea helps recognize diversity.”

A Filipino exhibit will be set up and tours are also offered.

Greshner encourages everyone to come and take part in the Heritage Tea and educate themselves in a different culture.

“We will have some Filipino artifacts on display,” she said. “Everyone is welcome to stop by the museum and see the new display.”

The Heritage Tea will take place from 2 to 4 p.m.
