On June 28 Red Deer RCMP Operations Control Centre received a call from a suicidal male threatening to shoot RCMP officers in the area of the Hobbema Detachment. In the late afternoon of the same day RCMP charged Jamie Warren Omeasoo, 31 years old, of the Samson Reserve with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm to peace officers, possession of a firearm while prohibited, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm. Omeasoo has been remanded in custody and will next appear in court on July 3.

After the phone call was received RCMP secured the area around the detachment. They mobilized services of the Red Deer and Edmonton Emergency Response Teams, Police Dog Services, RCMP hostage negotiators and RCMP officers from Hobbema, Wetaskiwin and Ponoka Detachments.
