The Klaglahachie fine Arts Society is preparing for its spring production of Things My Mother Taught Me

Spring isn’t quite around the corner and already the Klaglahachie Fine Arts Society (KFAS) is preparing for a spring production.

The play is a 90-minute generational romp from Katherine DiSavino’s Things My Mother Taught Me (licensed by Samuel French), explained Brielle Wolfe, communications co-ordinator for KFAS.

The play follows the story of a new couple who are moving into their new apartment when out of the blue their parents show up to help. It’s a story of life lessons, life experience and wisdom and laughter, all in the set of a two bedroom apartment.

There is still time to try out for the play.

The last day of auditions is set for tonight, Jan. 11, at the Ponoka United Church. Wolfe says Anna Maria Junus will be directing the play. Junus has experience in several productions in central Alberta including work with the Sound of Music held a few years ago.

Holding a spring production is all in line with KFAS’s overarching goal: to bring more arts and culture into the area.

“What we’re doing in 2017 is diversifying who we are as a performing arts group. We want to provide more arts and culture to the community of Ponoka,” said Wolfe.

Things My Mother Taught Me is performing in more than just Ponoka, however. Wolfe says the play shows for three weekends starting in March and will bring shows to the Rimbey United Church and to Edmonton at the Southminster-Steinhauer United Church.

She is excited about the potential of bringing the play, and the KFAS production, to other communities besides Ponoka.

The cast that KFAS is looking for:

A woman and a man in their late twenties/early thirties;

Two women and two men in their forties or fifties;

One other character of any adult age or sex.
