With a shocked look on her face and a humble smile, this 20-year Ponoka Library staff member smiled all the way through her service award acceptance Sept. 28.

Sharie Kuhl, 59, was surprised Monday morning to learn she would receive an award for her 20-year commitment to the Ponoka Jubilee Library.

“I guess I hadn’t really counted it up,” Kuhl said through laughter. “I’m really surprised, I didn’t know at all.”

Al McKay, chairman of the library board, presented Kuhl with a gift — a pen and clock engraved with “Sharie, Congratulations on 20 years.”

Kuhl has been part-time for the entirety of her 20 years and doesn’t think there’s a better job for a part-time employee. She works three days a week as an assistant librarian.

“One thing that has always kept me here is everyone I work with,” Kuhl said. “All-in-all, it’s perfect.”

“There have been a lot of changes here – except for me,” Kuhl laughed.
