Live music planned at Relay for Life

MIRANDA BROOKWELL/Youth Correspondent

As you all have read in last week’s article, the Relay for Life is being held this Friday evening, May 13 at Ponoka Composite High School.

Sarah Davis and her committee of PCHS students and community members have done an amazing job organizing and planning this whole thing, so I’d like to wish them the best with this awesome event. I’d also like to give a bit of an update on some of the activity and entertainment that will surely make this Friday a night to remember.

Along with games and some friendly sports competitions throughout the night, there will be live music from 8 to 11 p.m. that members of the community are welcome to attend. Captain Mac’s All Stars will perform from 8 to 9 p.m., Black Mike performs from 9 to 10 p.m., and the show will close with The Utilities from 10 to 11 p.m. We are so lucky to have such amazing talent right here in Ponoka. Bring family and friends to come out and have a great time.

On a more serious note, any cancer survivors or people who are currently fighting their brave battle with this awful disease are encouraged to come for a dinner, a special survivor’s lap around the soccer field, and share their stories if they wish.

Dinner will be a chili supper catered by Bob Ronnie at 5 p.m. on Friday, with the symbolic lap at 7:30 p.m. Anyone who wishes to share a story or give a speech is welcome to do so at 9:30 p.m.

So whether you’re coming for the music, the fun atmosphere, to honour those who have lost their battle, to celebrate those who have come out victorious, or to get pumped for those who are currently fighting their way through it, please support this amazing cause with a bit of your money, your time, or both. It’s worth so much more than you can imagine. As a person who is lucky enough to know many cancer survivors, both friends and family, I can tell you honestly that any amount of help can change lives.

I want to give a big shout out to Sarah and her fabulous crew for hosting the Relay for Life, and encourage everyone to stop by and have a great night surrounded by friends and family.
