Partners in a local business are doing something for seniors in the community that need some help at this time of the year.

Dwayne Jolliffe and Ineke Derks, who operate Auction Place Ltd. and hold weekly auctions on Tuesdays at the Ponoka Scout Hall, were initially looking for a way to raise funds during December and their brainstorming came up with an idea to give back to local seniors. The reason was simple seniors were a big part of their business, what with people downsizing or having to hold estate sales.

However, before deciding to move ahead, the pair went to several care homes in Ponoka to determine if there was even a need. After paying visits to a few places, they found to their dismay that there was a great need as there are a lot of local seniors that don’t receive anything during Christmas.

The fundraiser worked like this the pair purchased items to auction off with the proceeds being put toward gifts for seniors in town.

Well, once the idea was explained to their customers, the response and generosity was overwhelming.

The pair have been able to provide 47 seniors with some gifts for Christmas and know that they are being thought of during this time by not just Jolliffe and Derks, but by their business’ loyal customers in the true spirit of the season.

The gifts are all slated to be delivered this week.
