Nominate someone for helping disabled people

.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2011 Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities Awards. These awards are presented annually to recognize people who have helped further the inclusion of people with disabilities in the community.

There are two awards: the Gary McPherson Leadership Award and the Awards of Excellence.

The Gary McPherson Leadership Award is presented to an exceptional individual who has helped enrich the lives of people with disabilities.

The Awards of Excellence recognize individuals and organizations that have shown leadership in the areas of employment, education or community, or in improving the public’s awareness of barrier free and inclusive environments. Since 2003, when the awards began, there have been 35 recipients.

Nominations for all awards are open until Sept. 30. Award recipients will be formally recognized in their communities, often at events coinciding with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Dec. 3.

Nomination packages are available on the Alberta Seniors and Community Supports website at www.seniors.alberta.ca/PremiersCouncil or by calling 1-800-272-8841.
