Jordan Fenske is off to compete in welding at the provincials in Calgary after taking first place competing at regionals at Red Deer College.

Jordan Fenske, a student from Ponoka Composite High School, competed in the Welding Regionals Skills Canada Alberta Competition on April 26 and placed first out of 16 contenders.

“He did really well,” said PCHS welding instructor Wayne Gauthier. “The competition was really stiff and challenging.”

Fenske was judged by safety and knowledge of welding procedures and cutting procedures and after three hours of careful judging Fenske exceeded the expectations and was rewarded with a first place medal and a sweatshirt.

The win has given him a ticket to compete in the provincials in Calgary for a chance to move on to the nationals.

“I’m really excited to go to provincials,” said Fenske. “Provincials will be fun, whether I win or not either way it will be a good experience.”

Fenske is already preparing for provincials and is spending two hours at Will’s Welding everyday.
