The Ponoka 4-H District Public Speaking was held on March 8, 2020 at the Nazarene church in Rimbey.

The Ponoka 4-H District Public Speaking was held on March 8, 2020 at the Nazarene church in Rimbey.

Sixteen speakers from the Bluffton, East Ponoka, Crestomere, Silver Valley and the Rimbey clubs spoke at the event. It was an afternoon full of great speeches from all the 4-H ers. Our judges were: Marietta Rainey, Morena Stamm, Alan Tait, Jason Hazelett, Heini Hehli, Nina Tait, Lisa Scott, Candace Spratt and Georgina Smith. Megan Valstar MC’ed the event and Teri Ormberg and Lysbeth Peter were our timer and tellers.

The results for the day were as follows: Junior winners were: first, Evangeline Hoogland, Crestomere Club, second, Chloe Yadlos, East Ponoka and third Jenna Boyce, Bluffton.

Intermediate: First, Kolton Hoogland, Crestomere, second, Jenalee Stewart, Silver Valley Club and third, Isabella Sweet, Crestomere Club.

Senior: First, Rachel Devet, Silver Valley, second, Mackenzie Skeels, Bluffton, third, Aspen McTaggert, Crestomere.

The top two senior speakers were supposed to represent the district at the regionals at Arbutus Hall on Sat. Mar.21 and the top two intermediate speakers at the Moose Hall in Ponoka on Sun. Mar. 22. Due to the coronavirus both of these events had to be cancelled.
