Ponoka BBBS encouraged by donation

Ponoka Youth Centre has been encouraged to continue to serve the community’s needs with a substantial boost from the Wild Rose Foundation

Ponoka Youth Centre has been encouraged to continue to serve the community’s needs with a substantial boost from the Wild Rose Foundation. A $50,000 cheque was donated to PYC and Beth Reitz, executive director, says the money will go to administration including wages and facility costs.

“It is hard to get administration dollars,” said Reitz. “This is great for us and a good start for the 2009 year.”

The donation from the Wild Rose Foundation can only be received every few years.

The Wild Rose Foundation is a lottery funded agency that was started by the Government of Alberta in the fall of 1984. The foundation is made up of a seven person board of directors.

The Wild Rose Foundation provides help to volunteer-based, nonprofit, charitable agencies that serve their community.

Since the start of the foundation it has given out much assistance all over the province. In 2005-06 $4.8 million to 149 Alberta community service organizations and approximately $1.6 million to more than 86 Alberta based non-government organizations.
