There’s excitement growing at Ponoka Elementary School (PES) with the announcement of a new pre-kindergarten program for the fall of 2011. The PES Play Academy is designed for children ages three and four years old and is different in that it will be led by a certified teacher.

“Ponoka Elementary School is very excited to have this opportunity to provide pre-kindergarten programming to young children in Ponoka. It is an investment in the future of children, as the benefits of early learning last a lifetime,” said principal Lois Spate.

The Play Academy will offer classes two half-days per week for a total of six hours per week. There will also be early entrance programs five days (15 hours) per week and family-oriented programming.

“Our new Play Academy will provide excellent play-based programming for three and four year old children, with a highly skilled and certified professional teacher to deliver the program. Our Play Academy children and families will have access to school facilities and resources, as well as participate in family-oriented programming, which is another very exciting aspect of our new program,” added assistant principal Nicole Rawlinson.

All families in Ponoka and the surrounding area are welcome to call or drop in at Ponoka Elementary School to learn more about the PES Play Academy. The school is also hosting an open house and registration night April 7 from 4 to 6 pm.
