The Kinsmen Club of Ponoka held its 11th Annual Business Auction on March 23 at the Ponoka Legion.

After costs, the event raised close to $11,000 for the club’s community initiatives and saw about 110 attendees come out.

The business auction went well, only raising a couple hundred less than the year before, said Kinsmen president Alan Kolibaba.

The evening had a silent and live auction, made possible by the support of the community.

“Every single item we had for our auction was donated by businesses in the Town of Ponoka,” said Kolibaba.

Decorating for the event was done by Rose Creations and the meal was catered by Evolution Catering and Events.

Donations of $2,500 were made to the Old McDonalds Kennels Shelter Foundation and the Ponoka Rising Sun Clubhouse Society.

Martine Huijssoon, Amanda Henderson-Kada, and Jessica Leavitt accepted the cheques on behalf of their organizations.

The rest of the proceeds will go towards other community initiatives, such as the downhill derby in September, Kolibaba said. Planning for that event will begin next month.

The club is hoping to host a couple of other events, if they have enough members to run them.

The business auction was one of the last events held in the Ponoka Legion before the building was sold, so the Kinsmen will be looking for another venue for their auction next year, Kolibaba said.
