Ponoka Legion congratulates all Literary and Poster Awards winners

Royal Canadian Legion Ponoka Branch No. 66 hosted the Literary and Poster Awards Celebration with a dessert night on May 31.

Comrade Sybil Evans was the master of ceremonies with other Legion comrades assisting her.

By sponsoring the Remembrance Day Contest, the Royal Canadian Legion hopes not to glorify war but to foster remembrance and to understand the sacrifices made by so many men and women and their families.

It is a way for Canadian school children to honour veterans through creative writing and art.

Winners of the 2021 contest were recognized in the following categories: Black and White Posters, Coloured Posters, Poems and Essays.

There were a total of 194 entries from across our school district and 22 entries were submitted to our Legion District where we received three second place winners and four third place winners.

This all translated to certificates presented to all winners and a total of $1,80 presented in prize money. Well done everyone.
