Two men have been charged with trespassing at night and assault thanks to a tip from a motorist.
On the evening of Oct. 20 RCMP responded to a complaint of a suspected impaired driver on Secondary Highway 611.
Police say witnesses reported a grey Chevy diesel pickup attempted to ram a vehicle off the road. Officers took position on Highway 2 waiting for the suspect vehicle to approach.
A driver of a red pickup stated to police that the Chevy pickup came up close behind their vehicle. It is alleged they would then pass the red pickup and then slam on the brakes.
Mounties finally stopped the suspect vehicle on Range Road 262 on a rural property and arrested two men. Police say both men were intoxicated.
A 40 year-old Wetaskiwin man was charged with operating a vehicle while being pursued by police, impaired driving, trespassing at night and assault. The second man, a 26-year-old from Millet, was charged with trespass at night and assault.
Two vehicle collision in town
On Oct. 19 the Ponoka RCMP and the Ponoka Fire Department responded to a two vehicle collision that occurred on 51 Street and 48 Avenue.
Police say a northbound Dodge pickup ran the Stop Sign and collided with a westbound Jaguar on 48 Avenue. A 54-year-old man from Wetaskiwin was charged with failing to obey a Stop Sign, which resulted in a $388 fine.
Vehicle rolls on Highway 2
On Oct. 20 the Ponoka Integrated Traffic Unit responded to a single vehicle accident, which occurred on Highway 2, north of Highway 12.
A truck blew a tire, struck the median and rolled. A witness reported that the vehicle was fish tailing and then slid sideways for about 50 meters before entering the centre median.
The driver’s side tires dug into the ground and caused the truck to cart wheel before coming to a stop. No injuries were reported in this collision.
