The Ponoka RCMP’s pick up truck was quite full by the end of their first ever Stuff the Cruiser event on Dec. 10, at the No Frills parking lot.

Members collected non-perishable food items for the Ponoka Food Bank as well as unwrapped toys for Santa’s Anonymous Ponoka.

“To stay that we are thrilled with the generosity from the community members of Ponoka who donated to Ponoka RCMP’s Stuff the Cruiser initiative would be an understatement,” said acting detachment commander Sgt. Erin St-Cyr.

St-Cyr and Cpl. Phill Fortin dropped off 837 lbs of food to the food bank, along with $739.65 in cash donations, as well as a couple of gift cards.

While they didn’t have a count of the amount of gifts donated, St-Cyr said the cruiser was well and truly stuffed by the end of the day.

The RCMP Safety Bear joined them for the event, handing out candy canes and colouring books for the kids, and Ponoka resident Chris Ruter volunteered to help out during the event.

“We are most certainly looking forward to making this an annual event,” said St-Cyr.
