The Town of Ponoka and Ponoka County are partnering to light up the sky with a holiday season fireworks display over the Battle River Valley in downtown Ponoka on Thursday, Dec. 8.

The fireworks will begin shortly after the Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train’s visit to Ponoka that afternoon.

The CP Holiday Train rolls into Ponoka on Dec. 8, starting at 3:45 p.m. There will be a live concert from about 4 to 4:30 p.m. along the railway tracks at 50 Street and 47 Avenue in downtown Ponoka.

The concert will feature musicians Tenille Townes and Indigenous artist, Aysanabee.

The fireworks will follow at approximately 5:30 p.m. once the sky is dark enough for the fireworks display to begin.

The CP Holiday Train is free to attend and supports food banks across Canada.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a cash or non-perishable food donation if they’re able for the Ponoka Food Bank.

For more information on the CP Holiday Train, please visit www.cpr.ca/en/holiday-train/canada.

Temporary road closures

The town will facilitate the event by setting up temporary road closures on 50 Street between 48 Avenue and 50 Avenue starting at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 8.

The road closures will remain in place until the fireworks display has ended.

Motorists are asked to please drive with caution and observe “No Parking” signs and barricades.

Hand warming stations

Hand warming stations will be available during the event thanks to the Ponoka County Regional Fire Services East District Fire Department.
