A new program is getting started at the Ponoka Youth Centre.
Dubbed, Dinner and Drop-in, the new program, for youths aged 12 to 17) aims to bring dinner to the table for youths, explained Morgen Chernick, program director.
“The kids will be able to come right after school,” said Chernick. “And then till 5 p.m. there’s no electronics.”
“It’s their chance to connect, do some crafts, play some games, pool, discussion time. And then at 5 o’clock dinner is served family style,” she added.
The dinner is similar to what kids could find at their home with them helping set up the dinner table. It gives them an opportunity to sit down and talk with programmers about current events or whatever else is on their minds during the supper period.
Chernick is excited for what this program will bring to youths and she feels it will keep them in the doors.
“That family sit down meal is so important that I don’t think a lot of people or youth get,” said Chernick, adding families are busy these days.
After dinner, the regular Thursday drop-in program begins, said Chernick.
The program is sponsored by Gord’s No Frills. “I’m really excited about the partnership with Gord’s No Frills”
