The volunteer appreciation dinner for the Ponoka Youth Centre/BGC Wolf Creek and Big Brothers Big Sisters was held on May 16 at the Ponoka Golf Club.
Youth MCs for the evening were Ella Irwin and Cooper O’Connel.
Match testimonials were given by Susan Wedin and Austin Smith, and Dalton Maxwell and Tamara Cameron.
The Mike Meindertsma Memorial Award will be annually be given to:
· a volunteer who has shown dedication to the Ponoka Youth Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka agencies over a long period of time.
· a volunteer who has shown commitment in building into the overall mission and vision of the agencies.
The award this year was given to Paul Spate.
The Helen Hagemann Commitment to Volunteerism Awards is an award given to:
· a volunteer who has shown longevity to the Ponoka Youth Centre and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka agencies through their commitment to volunteering for 15 years or more.
This award was given to Craig Pateman (absent), Paul Spate and Doug Thorson.
The Legacy Award has been newly created this year to acknowledge volunteers who have been with the agency for twenty years.
The definition of legacy is the long-lasting impact of someone’s actions. Volunteers who have given 20 years of their lives to impact the youth in our communities, have definitely created legacies of love, care and compassion for the youth and families of our communities.
Awards were given to Heather Patterson, Allen Patterson and Tony Ruijsch.
