Ponoka’s pizza market heated up further last week with the opening to business of Cosmic Pizza and Donair on Highway 2A on Thursday, March 17.

The fast food outlet is the fifth of the chain, created and operated by immigrant entrepreneurs. Vadjid Gulizar, originally from Pakistan and one of the three partners operating the outlet, said they found the location to have optimal conditions to open their business in Ponoka after their successful ventures in other communities in central Alberta like Stettler and Wetaskiwin in addition to their locations in Beaumont and Stony Plain.

“It is on Highway 2A, it is next to 7-11 and Liquor Store, and it is very close to high school, it has all the advantages to turn this location to a food and beverage market,” said Gulizar.

The opening of the Cosmic Pizza and Donair comes within three months of opening of the Pizza Hut outlet on 50 Street.
