Public speaking season

By CHASE FLECK

Central Ponoka 4H Beef Club

Our club started off 2011 with a Christmas sleigh ride and gift exchange. We roasted hot dogs over an open fire and had hot chocolate.

On Jan. 13 some of our members attended a public speaking workshop put on by Shelagh Hagemann. We learned skills for “thinking fast” and ways to feel more comfortable when speaking to an audience. Thank you Mrs. Hagemann for taking time out of your busy day and sharing your valuable skills with us.

On Jan. 22 we attended a judging seminar at the Bull Congress in Camrose where we judged anything from a hedgehog to a heifer.

February marks the beginning of 4-H public speaking events and we would like to wish all 4-H members good luck with their public speaking.

Oil filters and battery collection

Our club is still collecting oil filters and batteries to raise funds for various club projects. If anyone has any 12 volt, lead acid batteries (car, truck, tractor, motorcycle, quad or marine batteries) or used oil filters that you would like to dispose of, please call my family (ask for Brent, Erin or Chase) at 403-783-6664 and we will arrange for one of our club members to pick them up.

We thank you for your support.
