This classic photo was taken on May 1, 1948 during one of the worst floods ever in the Ponoka district.

With the Battle River covering most of the river valley and into the Riverside district, Elmer Pendleton and his trusty team, and many other brave locals, transported wagonloads of workers from the Provincial Mental Hospital back and forth across the water.

Should we ask ourselves after all this snow, could it happen again?
