Gorge men, women out of provincials

Just when it looked like the Gorge dynasty was done, the senior men’s side regrouped and won the inaugural Pacific Cup champions league last month.

However, it is clearly not the same team that finished second in Canada last fall as Gorge fell 1-0 to the UBC Thunderbirds in the provincial A Cup quarterfinals on April 30.

The week before, Gorge defeated the Abbotsford Mariners 1-0 to advance from the final 16. Not making it through the final 16 were the Div. 1 regular season champions Bays United, who fell 2-1 to Surrey Pegasus.

Gordon Head, Vic West advance

Lower Island women’s teams Vic West and Gordon Head Blue are in this weekend’s B Cup semifinals. Vic West bettered the Richmond Red Devils 4-0 at UVic on Monday (May 2).

Gordon Head Blue also won 4-0, beating the Surrey Utd. Selects at Tyndall Field on Sunday. Vic West will face Richmond FC Selects on the Finlayson turf, at 2 p.m. Sunday. The time and place for Gordon Head Blue’s match against the Surrey Ajax Selects was yet to be announced as of the News’ press deadline.
