Battle River flooding in 1990

With the coming of spring we casually wonder about the danger of floods around our usually lazy old Battle River.

This amazing picture, which was taken in 1990, shows the vast area that was flooded on the east side of 50th (Railway Street) Ponoka, with water filling the river valley and extending well up into the Riverside district, as well as covering the decks of both the north and south bridges, and causing all sorts of damage for several days.

Over the years we were always told not to panic, but be prepared.
