This amazing photo was taken in the 1920s and features the first School Bus that was used to transport the 50 students living in the staff residents of the Provincial Mental Hospital to classes in Ponoka. What may have been the first official school bus in Alberta, the PMH had purchased the unit from a former rum-runner in the Blairmore area and completely refitted it with a sturdy body, roof, and some very hard seats. During the weekly two mile runs back and forth to the town schools the bus also picked the mail and other supplies for the hospital. Our precious future generations are no doubt happy to be back at school this week, so please watch out for them on every road and corner. Photo from A History of Dedication and Caring
