Remember When? A grand tradition in the early years of Ponoka was the friendly and colourful pow wows along Railway Street. The First Nations families would look forward to coming into the community with their horses and wagons, setting up camp next to the Battle River below the CPR dam, and then enjoying several days of traditional dancing and bartering in front of huge and appreciative crowds. This photo was taken in front of Alger’s Store at the corner of 50th Street and 51st Avenue, which was Ponoka’s very first business that burnt down several times before standing to this day as one of our town’s historical buildings.
