Remember When: Looking at the old Ponoka rink

When kids learned how to skate in the old Ponoka arena

This photo shows our community’s first indoor arena, which was built in 1947 at the south end of 50th street. Also shown is former Ponoka Stampeder star and long-time Ponoka resident, Jack Moore, putting the Mighty Mites teams through their paces. Those of us who were around in that era will never forget skating and playing on the best ice in Central Alberta, the first electric score clock, the usually jam-packed wooden bleachers, the fabulous goodies available in the heated lobby, the opportunity of being a ‘rink rat,’ and so much more.
