Remember When: Looking back at Ponoka’s first mental hospital

Remember When? This early 1920s photo was taken from the entrance road and shows the main buildings of the Alberta Hospital Ponoka, including the now historical and still remaining original Heritage Building as well as the main wards. One can’t help but notice the immaculate landscaping and trees, as well as the massive power house chimney on the left, which along with the water tower could be seen for miles and for decades was the landmark of the first class psychiatric hospital, which was opened in 1911 and continues to serve clients to this day.
